swhite@eastwakeeducationfoundation.org

Shannon began working at East Wake Education Foundation in June of 2010 as the Administrative Assistant. In March of 2017 she was appointed the new Executive Director. Shannon is a graduate of UNC Wilmington with a degree in Communication Studies. She loves getting out in the community and sharing the great work that is being done by the Foundation. “There is such a need for our program in eastern Wake County. So many families need to know that we are here and ready to help prepare their children for school.”

When Shannon is not working she enjoys spending time with her husband of 24 years and college aged twins. She enjoys watching her son play college baseball at Mid Atlantic Christian University, visiting her daughter at UNCW, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Brooke Atkins

Program Director

Brooke began working at East Wake Education Foundation in March 2017 after six years of preschool experience. She graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Family and Community Services. Working with children and their parents is so rewarding to Brooke and she loves to come up with great ideas to make learning fun and interesting to the children. Giving children a great foundation is imperative to the primary school years.

In her free time she loves to spend time with her husband of 12 years, two children who are 11 and 9. As a family they love to serve at their church and spend time with friends.

Becky McConkey

Administrative Assistant

Becky has been involved with the East Wake Education Foundation as the wife of an EWEF founder, a Board member and a supporter since its beginning in 1993.   Becky was a CPA who retired as the Director of Financial Services at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in 2012.  After realizing retirement was not “her thing”, in 2017 she was excited to step off the Board and into the role of Administrative Assistant when Shannon White became the Executive Director.  Now she gets to do her two favorite things, accounting and playing.

Becky is the proud mother of a grown son and daughter and the proud GranB to a grandson and granddaughter.  You might find Becky and her husband of over 40 years eating out at any of our East Wake restaurants because cooking is not “her thing” either.
